UAE E-Invoicing Explained: What Businesses and Developers Need to Know
Updated 2026-10-13 · by Brandew · اقرأ بالعربية
The UAE is moving from PDF and paper invoices to structured electronic invoices exchanged through an approved network. This guide summarises the model in plain English. It is not tax or legal advice: always confirm dates and scope with the Ministry of Finance, the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) or your tax adviser.
What is changing
Under the UAE programme, in-scope businesses issue invoices as structured data (XML) rather than only as a PDF. Invoices travel between the seller and the buyer through accredited service providers, and the relevant data is reported to the tax authority. The framework is based on the Peppol network and its PINT specification.
Accredited service providers (ASPs)
A business does not connect to the network directly. It appoints an accredited service provider approved by the Ministry of Finance, and its invoicing system exchanges data with that provider. Software developers such as Brandew build or adapt the system on the business side; they are not the accredited provider.
Phased rollout
Businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more go live on 1 January 2027, other businesses on 1 July 2027 and government entities on 1 October 2027. See the full UAE e-invoicing timeline by phase and how the five-corner model works.
What your system needs
- Invoices and credit notes that carry all required VAT and party fields
- Clean customer data, including tax registration numbers where applicable
- The ability to output invoices as structured data, not only as PDF
- An integration with your chosen accredited provider, via API or file exchange
- Status handling for accepted and rejected invoices, and an audit trail
A practical starting checklist
- Find out whether and when your business is in scope.
- List the systems that create invoices today (ERP, accounting software, website, spreadsheets).
- Choose an accredited service provider.
- Have a developer assess what each system needs to change.
- Test with sample invoices before the deadline.
If your invoices come from a custom website, a booking system or an internal tool, that system will need the most attention. See our UAE e-invoicing integration service.
